It could all still happen…

Last week’s loss to Guildford really put the cat among the pigeons and set up a fascinating end of season. With a win against Guildford and a victory in the next game at New Forest, Aces would have sealed the championship with a game to spare – but now it goes right down to the wire. It’s a straight three-horse race (the next team is Team Southampton who can only reach 40 points).

The division winner is promoted automatically. The team finishing second will play off against the second-placed team in Div 2(N) and the third-bottom team from Division 1. All scenarios (that I can manage) are explained below. Read more

A reminder of the next social event which happens on Friday 18 March. Please ensure I get your money by BVA night on Tuesday otherwise I can’t guarantee that you will be able to bowl with us (or even get in!).

The Reading Aces Social Club are very pleased to invite you to the inaugural St Patrick’s Day Bowling Tournament on 18th March (ok, it’s the day after… but at least most of us don’t have to go to work in the morning!).  Now, we’re not normally huge followers of dress codes and the like, but as always, we’re happy to make exceptions…

When: Friday 18th March starting at 7pm

Where: Big Apple Bowling, Wellington Road, Wokingham, RG40 2NJ. It’s in Wokingham town centre, just off the ring road.

Rules: Teams will be drawn from those participating and they will go head-to-head to amass the best total score across three games of bowling. The winners will then be thrown head first down the bowling alley (Elf and Sayfty would come down on us hard if we did that! – Ed) presented with a token prize for their amazing achievements and everyone will have a good time irrespective of whether they win, lose or completely crater. Any lane where players use side buffers, launch ramps or any other aids will see their scores halved (unless all participants are very much of kiddie age).

Dress code: Green is very much the colour. All participants are required to wear green for this event. Whilst you do not need to go green head-to-toe, it is expected that some significant part of your attire (e.g. t-shirt) is mostly green. There will be a small prize for the best effort.

How much does all this great fun cost? Remarkably little, actually. 3 games of bowling cost £9.95 (8.95 for kids up to and including age 14). Please ensure you let me have your money byClub Night Monday 14th March so I can confirm with the bowling how many lanes we’ll need.

See you there! – Martyn

Weekend preview 6/3

March 3, 2011 by Martyn · Leave a Comment

It’s another busy weekend for the Reading Aces ladies’ teams this weekend.

Our NVL Ladies are in action at Tendring Technology College, starting at 11:30. With Oxford and Guildford both playing each other as part of a triangular with Sussex Dolphins, a victory here is vital to keep up the pressure on both teams. Oxford have played two games more already, but Guildford will make up their game in hand this weekend.

The BVA Ladies face a tough challenge at home to Oxford Ladies 1 and Spikeopaths Ladies 1. Oxford Ladies 1 are the runaway league leaders, with our local rivals hot on their heels. A win against either team would go down as a major upset. Please come along and lend your support from 4pm.

Good luck to all involved!
