It’s never been so easy to raise money for our club, it’s as easy as doing your shopping online.

It’s very simple – just visit http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/ravc to register and shop with over 2000 well known retailers like Amazon, Argos, M&S, eBay and many more. Whenever I buy something, the retailer makes a donation to Reading Aces Volleyball Club. They’ve helped other causes raise over £2,000,000 so it really does work.

I’d be really grateful if you could use easyfundraising too. It won’t cost you a penny extra to shop through easyfundraising and you can even save money with special offers and voucher codes.

It work with thousands of well known retailer including Boden, M&S, Argos, Vodafone and many more. Our retailers love supporting good causes and will donate a percentage of your spend to your cause when you shop with them through the easyfundraising site.

What’s more, we work closely with our retailers to find voucher codes and discounts so you can save money on your shopping too.

Sounds good? Then register today – it’s as easy as 1,2,3

Firstly, register for free and tell us which cause you want to support – you can either support a cause that we already work with or register a new cause. Either way, it’s completely free.

When you’ve registered, you’re ready to shop and raise money! Simply click on the retailer you want, then shop as you would normally. When you make a purchase, we’ll send you an email telling you how much you’ve raised and pass the donation to your cause.

That’s it! We tried to think of step 3, but we couldn’t – it’s just that easy.

We’d love to have you on board so register now and starting raising funds today.

Our BVA Men’s team pulled off an exciting and hard-fought double victory against Farnborough Hawks and then Oxford Uni today.Playing in a furnace-like Kendrick School, Oxford defeated Farnborough 2-0 in the opening fixture.

First victim/worthy opponent was Farnborough. Squad for this game was Dave, Luciano, Geoff, Tom, Matt, Chris (Brown), Jen, Lucas, Martyn. It was a hard-fought game, but Aces won the first set relatively easily (25-16). Hawks fought back hard in the second set and sneaked past the finishing line 29-27. The third set went our way 15-11.

Having disposed of our first opponent, the second lamb to the slaughter/worthy opponent was Oxford Uni. Lucas had to leave for work, so that put us one middle down. Another change was to put Jen in as libero, a role in which she acquitted herself very well. The first, closely-fought, set went our way 25-21. The second set was rather more one-sided, with the Uni winning it easily 25-13. Matt also tried to knock some sense into Dave/managed to serve one straight onto Dave’s head (we’ll see over the course of next week if it’s had any effect. -Ed.) Aces did not give up though, and a see-saw third set finally saw Aces triumph 19-17.

With Newbold defaulting last week, this leaves both Aces teams top of the table – surely an unprecedented situation!

BVA Men’s next fixture is on 13th November in Aldershot, again against Farnborough and Maidenhead Mens 2, starting at 11am in Aldershot Garrison.

Our NVL Ladies host Team Bath on Sunday at 12:30 in potentially the most important (and definitely last) match of the regular season… Read on…

This is the match that could decide the NVL Womens 2 South championship. With the final match of the season coming up, the division title is still up for grabs by three teams. Oxford are currently on top by one point (46), with Reading in second and Guildford in third on equal points (45).

It’s simple. If Reading win the match, they win the championship irrespective of any other results. Given that it’s against Team Bath, who have won a grand total of two (yes, 2) SETS, you’d expect this to be a fairly routine victory. But just in case the unthinkable should happen, the possible scenarios are detailed below. Now go get a coffee and find a comfy chair, then start reading.

If Guildford (playing at Tendring at 11:30) win and Reading lose, then Guildford win the championship and Reading will go into the playoffs on account of better set difference compared to Oxford, who have no more games to play.

If both Reading and Guildford were to lose, then we go to set countback as all three teams would be tied on 46 points. Reading have the best set differential and cannot be overtaken (+4 on Guildford and +5 on Oxford). If Guildford lose 3-0 or 3-1, then Oxford go up via the playoffs and Guildford stay in 2 South. If Guildford win 3-2, then Oxford and Guildford would have to go to points differential (which the league would need to count back) to decide who goes up and who stays down. If that’s still equal (unlikely!), then Oxford would go through on account of their destroying Guildford both home and away.

Clear as mud? What the hell. Get down to Kendrick School for 12:30 and give it plenty of noise so we can get this done.
