Weekend preview 11/12

Only one team is in action this weekend. Our BVA Mens team are in a difficult home match against the unbeaten league leaders Maidenhead Mens 1 and Oxford Mens 1.
Both teams have an impressive combined record of 7-1, but coach Dave Fox is optimistic that our lads can do some damage.
See you all at Kendrick School for 16:00 tomorrow!

The last of the BVA matches were played on the 18th of April. We beat Basingstoke but lost against Maidenhead. This means that we’re in the promotion playoff on the 16th of May at Headington School in Oxford from 5pm.
New kit does the trick
February 25, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
BVA Mens team had a successful launch of the new team colours against Reading Uni and Basingstoke, winning both matches 2-0.
Opinion is divided as to whether the improvement in performance was due to the new kit, or the return of veteran wing hitter Chris Lusby-Taylor.
More victories are expected from the boys in red.
Congratulations to Chris Stent for winning MVP in both games.

Reading Aces suffered from a club-wide weekend of defeats, the only team with a win to their name was the NVL Division 3 ladies team!
The BVA Ladies started the season against Maidenhead Ladies – judging by the scores the first set was a bit of a warm-up while the ladies’ fighting spirit gave it a go in the second set but didn’t quite make it to turn around the match (final scores: 25-9, 25-22). The second game was against the brand-new Oxford Ladies team (final scores: 25-22, 25-11), newcomers to the league but last season’s Plate winners.
The BVA Men also started off against Maidenhead, although it looks like they resisted a little bit longer. Having turned the game around by winning the second set, they were finally defeated in the third (final scores: 25-16, 21-25, 15-8). Their second game against Spikeos looks a bit more straightforward for the opposition as Spikeos took the game in two sets (final scores: 25-20, 25-19). Interesting results as Maidenhead moved on to beat Spikeos in 2 sets!
Reading Aces Ladies 2 played their second fixture of the season, this time away in Oxford. They won the first game against Plymouth reasonably comfortably (apart from the wobbly third set during which everyone forgot how to play volleyball) in four sets (final score: 25-23, 25-22, 13-25, 25-22). The second game against Oxford saw Reading Aces struggling to keep up with the very tall host team, who had a very good game, and pretty swiftly losing in straight sets (final score: 25-19, 25-20, 25-12). Coach Matt is on the case and will no doubt have started working on the team’s shortcomings!
Meanwhile Reading Aces Ladies 1 met fellow NVL Division 2 side South Hants for a home game at Kendrick. Looking at the scores it looks like a tough game, in which Reading Aces remembered how to play in the third set!
With both teams winning two sets they had to go into a fifth set, which Reading Aces lost with the tiniest points difference – bad luck, we’ll get them next time (final scores: 21-25, 19-25, 25-17, 27-25, 13-15)!
