The weather is looking good so hope you’re all ready for some outdoor volleyball tonight at Woodley Airfield Youth and Community Centre, Hurricane Way, Woodley, RG5 4UX
Of the 6 people who replied to me only 1 couldn’t make the early time so we’ll start at 18.30. I know more people are coming but I do not know what time they’re planning on coming. We’ll have enough for 3 a side so should be fun.

Two 3:0 wins for Reading Aces 2

Just a quick note to report on today’s excellent results for the Div 3 ladies who won both matches in 3 sets. Good work ladies!

Reading Aces Ladies 1 had a cracking weekend!

March 6, 2010 by Annikakaka · Leave a Comment

RAVC Div 2 ladies came out fighting this weekend, after a month free of matches and a long run of defeats – Saturday saw the ladies take on Salford (placed 3rd in the league) at home venue, Kendrick School. Our squad started loudly and confidently, bolstered by Kenny and Dina from Div 3 (thanks!) and the Lambert family in the stands. Perfect passing from the serve and Salford’s attacks meant setter, Ally, had all hitting options available. Special mention to Mirjam (MVP), Marcella and Stassie who were on fire on front court, scoring point after point! Reading took the first set comfortably 25-15. The second set started loudly but less confidently, with Reading forced to make a come back from 7 points down, but some impressive back court cover from Queenie and Libero Kenny, gave the front court, including Kay, more attacking  and points scoring opportunity. Second set was finished off 25-22 to Reading. More of the same and a confident Reading took the
third set 25-22, for a fantastic straight sets win.
Sunday, again at Kendrick School, with a squad of just 7 players, Reading met Chester with high hopes following yeterday’s exciting victory. Reading made a good start, once again putting the first pass in, so making life easy for setter, and MVP, Ally, to pick and choose the attack. Strong hitting from Marcella and Mirjam, against no block, and a fantastic serving run by Soussy, lead Reading to a 25-?? result. After a rocky start in the second set, thanks to improved blocking from Chester, Stassie, coming in for injured Kay, marked the turning point and Reading finished the set 25-??. Third set, and it was obvious Reading were tiring, but they dug deep, especially Queenie who was useful on both front and back court, and won it 25-??.
Well done ladies – let’s take this feeling and confidence to Ealing at the end of March.

Third set, and it was obvious Reading were tiring, but they dug deep, especially Queenie who was useful on both front and back court, and won it 25-16.

Well done ladies – let’s take this feeling and confidence to Ealing at the end of March. (Thanks to Ally for these excellent match reports!)

The Div 3 ladies travelled to Bath today (Sunday) to take on the 2 teams at the top of the league, Bristol and Team Bath. It was always going to be a challenge, especially as they were reduced to 6 players.

The first game, against Team Bath, started strong but the team couldn’t quite keep up with a team full of first year students, i.e. a LOT younger! :) , and lost the game 3:0.

Reading Aces looked a bit tired in the first set of the second game, against Bristol, but they really started fighting in the second set and wouldn’t let go until the scores went well into the thirties! The set was finally won by Bristol 34:32!

Both teams fought equally well in the third set, but unfortunately Bristol came out that little bit stronger again and took the set 26:24. Reading Aces should be really pleased with their effort against a strong team, which made a very enjoyable game.

Special thanks to Matt who’s been coaching us for the past 2 and a half years – today was his last game with us. Thanks Matt and good luck in your adventure!

New kit does the trick

February 25, 2010 by bvamen · Leave a Comment

BVA Mens team had a successful launch of the new team colours against Reading Uni and Basingstoke, winning both matches 2-0.

Opinion is divided as to whether the improvement in performance was due to the new kit, or the return of veteran wing hitter Chris Lusby-Taylor.

More victories are expected from the boys in red.

Congratulations to Chris Stent for winning  MVP in both games.
